The only time we can relax is when we have achieved the state of full
enlightenment; when we have abandoned the two types of obstructions
(obstructions to liberation and obstructions to omniscience). Until
then, we must work hard to acquire the accumulations of the two
collections. The bodhisattvas work to accumulate the two collections of
merit and wisdom for countless eons. If even the bodhisattvas have to do
this, then it goes without saying that we ordinary beings must
definitely practise. The point is to do our best to practise as much as
we can.
When we relax and sit idly by and do nothing when it is not the time to
relax, then we will experience problems and suffering in the future.
This is obvious. For example, when we have a job to do, if we just sit
and do nothing, then we will meet with obstacles and problems. The same
applies to Dharma practice. Otherwise, at the time of death, we will
meet with problems and suffer. After death, it will be extremely
difficult to obtain another good rebirth.
Keep this in mind: this is not the time to relax, to sit idly and do
nothing. By remembering this, we should try our best to engage in Dharma
studies and focus our minds single-pointedly on Dharma practice. It is
our individual responsibility to change for the better.
