TIBETAN SACRED DANCES

Known in Tibetan as Cham, the ‘lama dance’ is a meditative dance performed during specific rituals and ceremonies in the monasteries. These dances, performed with deliberate movements and intent, enact certain sacred rites to counter obstructive forces that hinder the life and well-being of the community. The dancers usually wear masks that depict great masters of the past or an array of meditational deities as they move in tandem to the beating of cymbals and drums.
