HOSPICE

Hospice Under the Care of Amitabha Buddha (HUCAB), our hospice volunteer group, reaches out to the terminally ill, actively engaging in compassionate service and care to those in their last days.

Our volunteers currently serve patients at Dover Park Hospice (DPH). We provide the role of befriending the patients – feeding them, listening, just being there for them – as well as offering them massage. The volunteers also make arts and crafts for sale to the public. The proceeds are donated to DPH for patient welfare.

Volunteers first receive training from professionals in palliative care, psychiatry and psychology so that they are well-equipped with the mental strength and emotional resilience to care for the patients.

Offering service at the hospice provides very real lessons on death and impermanence and on valuing the preciousness of this human life, while at the same time allowing one to touch the lives of the terminally ill.

There is a prerequisite of volunteer training involved to join HUCAB in its compassionate service to the dying. Those who would like to find out more can contact weegh_02@yahoo.com or catherine_laulh@hotmail.com
