EDUCATION - BUDDHISM IN A NUTSHELL

This is an introductory course that provides a general overview of basic Buddhist principles for beginners over 6 sessions.

Topics include:

  • The causes of happiness and suffering
  • Proving the existence of rebirth
  • Karma – actions and their effects
  • What it means to be a Buddhist
  • A general overview of the path to enlightenment.

It is necessary to have a clear and firm understanding of these foundation topics as a basis for more advanced studies of the Buddhist teachings in the future. This course is therefore recommended for all who are new to Buddhism and who have the interest to develop their knowledge and understanding over the long term.

The Teacher
Venerable Tenzin Gyurme joined ABC in 1993, while he was still in National Service. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the National University of Singapore. He was ordained by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 1999 and now serves ABC as its Spiritual Programme Coordinator and Tibetan language interpreter, having completed the two-year Lotsawa Rinchen Zangpo Tibetan Translator Program in Dharmsala, India in 2002.
