Madhyamakavatara (Entering the Middle Way)

Online Teachings by Khen Rinpoche Geshe Chonyi
Every Saturday and Sunday (from 25 June 2023)
10am – 12pm (GMT+8)

Following Khen Rinpoche Geshe Chonyi’s return to Singapore, the Madhyamakavatara class, which started in 2022, will resume.

We are extremely fortunate that Khen Rinpoche is giving teachings on Madhyamakavatara, or Entering the Middle Way, composed by 7th-century Indian master Chandrakirti. Madhyamakavatara is one of the Five Great Treatises that form the core of the curriculum of philosophical studies at the great Tibetan Monastic Universities.

Madhyamakavatara was composed primarily as a supplement to Master Nagarjuna’s Mulamadhyamakakarika (Fundamental Wisdom of the Middle Way), the foundational text of the Madhyamaka philosophical system. It provides a detailed explanation of Nagarjuna’s exposition of emptiness and dependent origination, and sets that within the framework of how one progresses through the practice of the ten perfections on the ten grounds of the Bodhisattva, to the final attainment of the ground of the Buddha.

We will be studying this text primarily on the basis of Lama Tsongkhapa’s commentary Illuminating the Intent. This multi-year class is taught in Tibetan with English translation by Venerable Steve Carlier.

Please do not miss this precious opportunity to study this text with Khen Rinpoche!
